We hope you have enjoyed the end of your summer and the transition back to school is going smoothly. As some of you may know, the ACMYC Sailing Program runs out of quite a historical yacht club. While the grounds may be simple its history is far from it. The 15 young founding members created the Cotuit Mosquito Yacht Club (CMYC) in 1906 to have a place to foster their love of Cotuit Skiffs. The founders set the long-standing parameters that voting members must be between the ages of 8 and 25 and unmarried. Dues, which started at 50 cents, has been raised to a hefty $5 for an individual, and $10 for a family. Since the sailing program should lead young people to participate actively in the CMYC, we encourage all students and their families to join.
FYI- The ACMYC (parent association) was created in 1950 to provide support to the CMYC. Over the years the Association has assumed the responsibility of purchasing and maintaining the committee boats and safety vessels, acquiring and up keeping the grounds (generously provided by the Ropes family), and over seeing the instructional program.
With the annual Labor Day meeting upon us, we wanted to extend an invitation to sailing program families to get more involved and become members of this historic yacht club. The meeting will be held at 11am on Monday at the Dannhauser's home at the top of the hill from Ropes Beach. If your family is interested in becoming a member, (your children would be able to vote for the new racing committee, Treasurer and Commodore), send us your contact information (feel free to reply to this email) and we will nominate you during the meeting. All that is required of you is paying the dues at the 4th of July meeting next summer.
Thank you for a wonderful summer! We hope to see you at the meeting.
Bookie and Sara
